Dr. Vissing’s work in human and child rights, and broadly in the area of the Sociology of Children, Peace and Community Development and Health issues have been embraced by the international community.  She has received invitations to present her work at a variety of interntional forums, including:  The Netherlands, Iceland, Canada, China, India, Norway, Sweden, Scotland, England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Spain, Wales and France.  She has worked with Save The Children Norway. Vissing has also traveled to Nepal, Cuba, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Panama, Mexico, Spain, China and other countries.  A few highlights include:

Creation of a bill authorizing the creation of a Commission of Child and Youth Rights for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with Senator Joan Lovely.

Yvonne was invited to participate in a Cultural Diplomacy International Human Rights and Global Peace Summit April 2016 in Iceland at their Parliament. 

Vissing was an invited major speaker at the 25th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in Amsterdam, November 2014 and spoke on the role of the Untied States and children’s rights.  This resulted in a book chapter and Hope for Children UNCRC Child Policy Chair appointment.

She also was an invited speaker on child rights education at the 8th International Conference on Human Rights Eduation in Montreal Dec. 2017 and the 5th International Conference on Human Rights Education in Washington, Dec. 2015.

As a Whiting Foundation Fellow in Fall 2013, Dr. Vissing visite child advocacy leaders in England, Scotland, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.  She presentated:

ADMINISTRATIVE BACKGROUND

Dr. Vissing has a doctoral cognate in the area of Social Work Policy, Planning and Administration, and has worked with hundreds of organizations to assist them with a host of administrative functions and operations.  For instance, through the American Sociological Association, she provides consultations, program reviews, assessments and other services to higher educational units from coast to coast.  She has developed a variety of nonprofit and educational organizations that have proven to be quite successful, and worked behind the scenes with a host of others to ensure their success. 

Her skills include visionary planning, grant writing, program development and implementation, staff supervision, problem solving and decision making, human resources management, public relations, to name a few.  The research background of Dr. Vissing underscores her administrative approach; she is likely to collect data and analyze situations before making administrative recommendations or decisions.  As a NIMH trained researcher, her skills include Needs Assessments, Project Design and Implementation, Statistical and Data Analyses, Survey Research, Focus Groups, Meta Analyses, Program Evaluations, and the appreciation of both Quantitative and Qualitative Research. 

Dr. Vissing has good interpersonal skills, and her background in education and mediation enable her to instruct, motivate, and negotiate actions that can lead toward success.  She uses a partnership model whenever possible. A published author and keynote speaker at national conferences, she uses oral, written, and visual presentations to help inspire others.  She has a keen appreciation of the use of technology as part of the essential administrative process.

Other Medical Sociology Teaching Assignments:

Focal Problems Preceptor, Medical School, Michigan State University.  This was a small group clinical problem solving class for medical students,  who are given a paper case to solve with help from readings in the social, biological, and clinical sciences. Each group has two preceptors, a physician and a social scientist who help the students integrate the basic materials in the context of a problem solving case.  A few of the problems I taught concerned: diabetes; cardiovascular disease; cancer; back pain; anemia; and AIDS. This teaching assignment also required academic and personal counseling with students.
